Sports, Politics, and the Willingness to Fight for a Free and Fair Election
Mark Hayes (00:05.752)
Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. Two men in black and white and honest conversation. Thanks for joining us. It is the first big weekend of college and pro football. And wow, they couldn't have waited one more second to ruin the fucking weekend. the producers and executives at ESPN's College Game Day and at the network itself decided that now was time to ruin college football in the pregame show by bringing
Little Eddie Munster Ted Cruz onto the broadcast to talk about what? Blowing up the current pay scheme in college football. Bottom line, they don't want these athletes getting paid. Bottom line, why? Too many black and brown ones. Let's check in with Brock and Ellis in the beautiful confines of the upper Hudson River Valley. Brock,
Mr. Underwood over there at University of Michigan bounces back with a big win over Oklahoma. does an amazing interview from a PR standpoint after the game. But he's making $10 million a year, and he's 2-0 right now. And somebody doesn't. A whole lot of somebody with Rs next to their name don't like it. Ted Cruz appears on the show to talk about how horrible it is. And ESPN gives him a platform. Un.
Fucking real. Why are they ruining? Well, see because who's always saying that why why why can't we just have sports? Right? I remember when a time I'm old enough to remember when just MAGA said that.
Brock Ganeles (01:51.214)
Well, I was happy to see that University of Texas students were airing their opinion of Ted Cruz's presence on campus for the big game against Ohio State with the Ted Cruz sucks chant that pretty much from the clip I saw almost like overwhelmed.
Mark Hayes (02:06.33)
Perfect.
Brock Ganeles (02:10.741)
The Senator. So couldn't really hear what he was talking about. I didn't watch the full interview. I just saw the clip where they were chanting him down. Doesn't surprise me that it was on there politicking and that so ESPN is now taking the stance with quote ownership and management, right, against Labor in saying that the system has to change 'cause the dollars can't be flowing to the players in this way. I mean college football's broken, they don't know what their system is anymore. It's really
Mark Hayes (02:11.982)
The interview, yeah.
Mark Hayes (02:20.432)
Sure.
Right.
Mark Hayes (02:37.124)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (02:40.655)
Yeah, and not an educational platform. but yeah, I mean ESPN has been playing this move to the right for at least a decade now. Pat McAfee, UFC, just in general, the the shift in their the narrative in the way they cover sports has moved to more of a MAGA-friendly
Mark Hayes (02:42.202)
It's a pro system. Yeah. Sure. Sure.
Mark Hayes (02:54.062)
Mm-hmm.
Brock Ganeles (03:06.291)
Is that what they really believe or is that just where they think the audience is? I mean they've even pushed Stephen A. Smith, their biggest black star, to the right, so he's become one of those Jason Whitlock, Tim Scott, you know
Mark Hayes (03:22.372)
Byron Donalds, don't leave him out.
Brock Ganeles (03:23.745)
Byron Donald's types who's, you know, sort of towing, you know, playing FTSE with MAGA, pushing the MAGA narratives. You know, they always take take the politics out of sports, right? You can't. It's so embedded. It's so embedded. But I do f I do feel like the Ted Cruz interview backfired on them just in terms of
Mark Hayes (03:34.447)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (03:40.196)
Can't do it. You can't do it.
Brock Ganeles (03:48.375)
from a at a personal level that he just you know, he just comes across as so disliked. Having said that, he wins elections, right? So
Mark Hayes (03:48.432)
Especially in terms of the optics.
Mark Hayes (03:54.542)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (03:59.419)
Well, does he win them? Or or does he procure them? how is he how does he keep winning again? Texas demographically blue, purple at the worst. But yet these guys keep coming that's right. They've got one drop box for ballots in Harris County. One
Harris County, by the way, is where people for the city of Houston live. Right? One drop box. Hundreds of thousands of ballots that probably never get counted. you know, bringing Ted Cruz on yesterday, I think did horror did so much harm to the show. yeah, your Pat McAfee people tune in. I think the guy adds nothing to the show.
they bought Nick Saban in, you know where he stands. He's all MAGA. He's anti player getting paid. that's why he left the game. he was even cussing on the show yesterday. So, I mean, is that where we're going? I mean, out the window with you know, playing it down the middle went a little sense of decorum. I I mean, in my 30 years of broadcasting.
I can't think of anybody that said shit during the course of a broadcast or you know anything even remo I don't I I can't remember anybody saying damn or hell because you know why the FCC used to have teeth. And so now are we using sports, you know, as a platform to jump in off into, you know, again.
The the us and them mentality when it comes to keeping, you know, black America in its place. You know, because I mean, Rock, think about it now. LSU's roster is up around 50 million in terms of its its paydays, right? There are a bunch of teams who have crossed the 40 million dollar threshold. It's a lot of kids getting a lot of money.
Mark Hayes (06:18.648)
And a lot of them are African American and I'm wondering if that's the issue. Because we can go back to paying under the table. I mean, we know the money's there. So what do you want to do?
Brock Ganeles (06:29.581)
Mark, the money must be there for the school to pay out the 50 million. Right? So, like, it's worth it. It's an investment to fill that LSU stadium six or seven times with 80,000 people. The pay they get for the ball games, mem you know, merch and the like. There's no doubt it's still open.
Mark Hayes (06:35.044)
Yes Yes
Mark Hayes (06:48.869)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (06:52.816)
T V money. Don't forget the T V money.
Brock Ganeles (06:57.621)
TV money. SEC TV money is huge. The SEC network. So, as well as the national dollars. So it's making sense, right? It's making business sense for these universities, plus, they want to win for ego value, so they're spending the money on the players to have teams that are competitive. And we say competitive, competitive for a national championship.
Mark Hayes (07:02.287)
Yes.
Brock Ganeles (07:23.849)
So okay, I mean we're it's here we are at capitalism, capitalism one one.
Mark Hayes (07:31.588)
Yep. Yep. You have to invest to make a little money.
Brock Ganeles (07:32.6)
Talented people are getting paid for their talented people are getting paid for their talent. And management doesn't like it because now their cost of goods has gone up and it cuts into their margin. So some fat cats have a little less money going in their pockets because it's going out to the labor force, right? It's kind of the same argument while the minimum wage has been
Mark Hayes (07:37.828)
Boom.
Mark Hayes (07:56.964)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (08:00.671)
eight dollars and twenty-five cents for the last thirty years, right? 'Cause it was always gonna break the backs of business if you raise the minimum wage. We're always hearing that from the ownership class.
Mark Hayes (08:09.976)
Yep.
Yep. But it's not true. And we've known it's not true. remember, Brock, these universities know that success on the football field is their best marketing tool. Right? We know that there are many, many kids, because I hear it all the time here in in greater the greater Atlanta area, went to UGA because they got a great football team. All right. Kid might have been a great student, because you got in UGA, which is really tough to do, but
largely due in part to their football team. You know, Georgia Tech isn't also Ram when it comes to that because they haven't been competitive in very long, you know, in terms of the national playoff picture. that's why kids go to Clemson or used to. Can't go there anymore if you want to be, you know, considered a football powerhouse. but that's why the SEC schools are, you know, over the top, filled to the gills with
applications for entrance, right? And that translates to cold hard tuition dollars, which they know means money in the coffers and everybody keeps their job and everybody stays fat and happy. And that's what it's all about. I saw a young lady dragging a black doll with a noose around its neck on campus at LSU and it was going viral.
Brock Ganeles (09:24.523)
Uh-huh.
Mark Hayes (09:40.559)
And nothing was done about it. You never heard about this student being approached, being disciplined, being asked to stop. But these universities in the SEC especially don't want you to have any rights, but they do they they're saying, okay, you know, we'll give you a couple million dollars to come play quarterback for us. But you're not gonna be able to vote. you know, you might get lynched if we mistake you for someone else.
Or there was a young man who was accused of a crime he didn't commit and ended up taking his own life for LSU. All these that happened at LSU as well. the wide receiver, Lacey. So, you know, Brock, it it it really is frustrating. America is beyond like the boil boiling point right now. And I'm telling you, man, this like this midterm is it. Like, if we don't get out here and in
Overwhelming numbers make it so they can't contest this thing. I mean, we're cooked. We're already partially cooked. I think we've got one one foot in the frying pan already, and we're leaning heavily towards being fully immersed in the hot oil, the hot grease. we're just about cooked. And this midterm will determine, you know, how well our goose gets cooked and fried.
Brock Ganeles (11:06.741)
neighbor was telling me today about the vote going into the the election saying like no telling me when early voting was starting because she wanted to make sure that I was voting and voting in person because he's like you're not gonna trust the United States Postal Service with a mail and ballot. She's like no we actually have the we actually have the benefit of a local polling place. You gotta show up and vote in person to make sure that your vote at least gets in. Then we'll see if it gets counted.
Mark Hayes (11:24.344)
Yeah, no.
Mark Hayes (11:32.442)
Yeah.
Brock Ganeles (11:36.834)
But I was just interesting to hear that blatant lack of trust for the Postal Service. And I can't believe she's the only one that's that's not gonna mail in mail in vote. So I think that's a sense of people across the country that the you know you can we we can't trust our government for just about anything.
Mark Hayes (11:46.095)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (11:54.574)
Well
Mark Hayes (12:02.213)
Yeah. Well, Brock, remember that clown is still on the postal board. he's still there. He's never been removed. Yeah. the joy for the jail was my campaign slogan. so you have that, and then you had Donald Trump who led the cheaters' pledge at their whatever the hell it was, the grinders shutdown event last week in Dallas where
Brock Ganeles (12:07.659)
Yeah. The j the joy, right? Yeah. Yeah.
Mark Hayes (12:28.676)
You know, all these Republican operatives ran into the city of Dallas and shut down Grindr. apparently that happens at a lot of Republican events. We'll get into that a little bit later. Grinder Mike Johnson probably leading the way on his phone with with many, many likes and right swipes. but you know, why they're telling us they're going to cheat. I mean, they're telling us they're going to do everything within their power to steal this election.
We should not be surprised.
Brock Ganeles (13:03.913)
The mail-in ballots, if the postal service is on board, is kind of the easiest way to just you know, those those ballots can just disappear, right? Just never never get counted. So it it's just interesting that I, you know, kind of people in my daily life are talking about that, you know, about how to circumvent government voter suppression and which
Mark Hayes (13:12.686)
yeah.
Brock Ganeles (13:29.387)
what used to be standard operating procedures we can't can no longer operate by. And maybe not everyone has that luxury though, right? Mail and voting became, you know, is just growing on both sides of the aisle. It might end up hurting MAGA as much as it hurts the left. It might be a wash. It's just a whole bunch of people's ballots aren't gonna get aren't gonna get read, read in or, you know, counted.
Mark Hayes (13:36.016)
Mm mm.
Mark Hayes (13:46.8)
Sure.
Mark Hayes (13:52.76)
Right. Right. And
Brock Ganeles (13:55.0)
But it might not it might not tip the balance 'cause they don't really know. But there's almost no doubt that the you know, the postal service is in on the fix.
Mark Hayes (14:05.295)
Right. And Brock, we don't know exactly what other drastic and diabolical measures they're willing to go to, right? What lengths they're willing to go to. he's building the bunker. He's obviously going to hide in there in twenty-eight when, you know, he's asked to leave unceremoniously. so we know he's not coming out. we know that now that they are armed with those stinging mittens that
the ice units will probably be attacking the poles, scaring anyone black and brown, probably away from the poles, and they'll be able to put hands on people with those mittens, stun guns, and whatever else, you know, they're willing to use. you know, maybe even lethal force. Who knows? because there are going to be some confrontations. There are enough people out here who are pissed off enough to say, you know what?
This is too much. This is a bridge too far. I think we've hit that point, Brock. I think him ushering in that that that pledge the other night, I promise to cheat and do whatever we have to do to win this election. Come on, dude. I mean, that the fact that that was the news that came out of that whole grinder fest is a problem. You know?
Brock Ganeles (15:28.877)
Yeah, that was a rallying cry. We gotta cheat. T two remote are gonna give you five thousand dollars if you vote for us. And I expect everyone to cheat. Basically, a green light to anyone in MAGA world to do whatever they can to manipulate this vote. It's amazing that this is where we are. It's amazing that we're still so complacent about it.
Mark Hayes (15:31.663)
Right?
Mark Hayes (15:35.994)
Okay. Yep.
Mark Hayes (15:49.839)
Yeah.
Brock Ganeles (15:56.354)
that we're all still banking on the fact that we're gonna get a f free and fair election in November and at least a par and a and a partial transition of some elements of power. That's what's expected. But everyone's gonna have to fight for their vote.
Mark Hayes (16:03.151)
Happening.
Mark Hayes (16:15.354)
Yep. Yep. And it may be a physical fight. It's it's it's not just, you know, small talk. we may have to crash the gate in order to get to the polls. I wouldn't be surprised, you know, if we saw ICE agents blocking entrance to polling places. Because then what do you do? Who do you call?
Are state police, local police, county police, sheriff's offices going to go to battle with federal agents? I mean Brock, think think think about how horrifying that that the thought of that is.
Brock Ganeles (16:58.061)
Yeah, here we go again. We had the same discussion relative to ICE agents. Would local police, you know, protect the citizenry against the violence of the state? And and this the prospect looms again on election day.
Mark Hayes (17:03.481)
Yes.
Mark Hayes (17:17.359)
Mm-hmm.
So what do we do? How do we get prepared? Well, first of all, you know, I'm constantly checking my registration at the SOS Secretary of State's office. as after we went through with the Stacey Abrams Kemp election, you know, we've seen we've seen it happen here in Georgia up close and personal. your boy Kemp acted as the Secretary of State and was in charge of the voter roll while he was a candidate.
For the governor's office.
Brock Ganeles (17:51.256)
We know what we do. First of all, you make sure you're registered, and second of all, you show up in overwhelming numbers. And I think that's gonna mean showing up in person in overwhelming numbers, not relying on mail and voting. We're gonna need to have in person an in person tsunami. And like you said, that might lead to some violent clashes if IC agents are actually gonna try to physically
Mark Hayes (17:53.816)
Right.
Mark Hayes (18:00.11)
Yes.
Mark Hayes (18:12.58)
Yes.
Brock Ganeles (18:20.959)
not allow people into polling stations. You know, we're we're inching our way towards violent conflict and civil war and we don't know what the flashpoints are gonna be. We had a couple with the ICE agents when they were murdering particularly white people on the streets and it led to mass protests. And Election Day is another moment where we could have some flashpoints because
Mark Hayes (18:48.741)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (18:49.641)
If Trump's telling his people to cheat, are we gonna allow that? Are we gonna allow them to win by cheating? That's really the question everyone in America has to ask themselves.
Mark Hayes (18:57.252)
Right.
Sure, sure. and that makes perfect sense because again, Brock, I I I I go back to our twenty four election. We know there is no way that Trump won every single swing state. We know that for a fact. Especially Pennsylvania.
Where Kamala Harris had agents on the ground all over the state knocking on 800,000 doors the week leading up to the election. And they didn't see one Trumper, one Trumpster, one Cheeto Mussolini operative out there in the streets, out there doing the groundwork. And that's how we know. whether it's Elon Musk and the doji bros working behind the scenes or how they're getting it done.
we need to figure it out and we need a plan right now. I know Mark Elias is on top of it. we've already nominated him for the Congressional Medal of Honor. We think he should get several of them. But he's ready to go. He's got lawsuits ready to be filed. and that would be a beautiful thing. I gotta tell you, that would be a beautiful thing.
And and we need it. We need those kind of champions at the ready to go for the jugular. We can't be Minnesota nice about it, whatever that is. Right? We've got to be a we've got to be willing to fight for our lives or be prepared to get our paperwork in order and get out of town. And by out of town I mean the country.
Brock Ganeles (20:48.543)
Mark, every one of us is gonna have to say there's no fucking way this government, my government, is gonna keep me from
Following through on my constitutional right to vote. Right? I am not letting this government stand between me and the ballot box and just have to have that anger going into election day that no one's stopping me from voting. And then if we, as hundreds of millions of people, come with that kind of anger on Election Day, we will do what Hungary did to Victor Orban.
Mark Hayes (21:03.632)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (21:24.245)
which is absolutely mute any attempts that he had of fuckery of his election. And that's what we're gonna have to do. We're gonna have to flood the streets in person with a chip on our shoulder saying, No one is preventing me from executing my free will in the election booth. And it's gonna take courage, right? Not just st
Mark Hayes (21:46.499)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (21:52.3)
You know, not even just anger, not even just a resolute attitude. It's gonna take the courage to walk in there and have the argument and have the conflict if necessary to make sure that you vote. Scary, but that's where we are and that's what we're gonna have to do as individuals. And then if we all back each other up, strengthen numbers.
Mark Hayes (22:07.266)
Right.
Mark Hayes (22:15.008)
Right. And you know, again, we can't sit idly by that no one can sit idly by. because the power of white supremacy that has dogged this nation since its inception has got to be rooted out. that's the only way we get back on top, bro. I mean, look look what the white supremacist agenda has gotten us in terms of our
Our global disconnection, right? We're all alone out here. And remember, you know, you talked about each and every citizen wanting to exercise their right. Remember who's coaching Donald Trump? And and who's pulling out all the stops, you know, from his dictatorship playbook. And that is Vlad the Conqueror, right? Mr. Putin is telling him exactly how this works.
And how to do it. And why he can too. Because there's no Brock, we know for a fact. There's no way he's smart. He wasn't smart enough to be any good at a business that he learned up close and personal. How do we think he's good enough to overthrow an entire United States democracy? He ain't that smart.
Dude, he's dumb as a box of rocks. So it's him, the Project 2025 people, Vladimir Putin, and all the coaching he's getting, and then all the complacency and complicity that he's getting from Congress that's enabling him to walk this walk. You know, the best thing we can do is hope for chronic heart disease. you know, to just take him out. Because no one else, no one else has the balls or the gumption to do what this clown is doing.
Brock Ganeles (24:12.151)
Well, if we all stood up and rebelled, you know, that would be the other way to do it, right? If we started ha thinking ourselves as a revolutionary citizenry. You know, right now we're all banking on our democracy to hold and for the election to actually be executed to with an element of fairness that that then ushers in and is allowed to have a transf a
Mark Hayes (24:18.786)
Right. Right.
Mark Hayes (24:24.527)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (24:42.005)
transfer of power because the left's gonna assume they're gonna win, right? It's gonna be a blue wave. We're assuming all those things are still gonna happen in year two of Trump two.0. So we're making a big bet that our democracy has not already disintegrated. But I think we better have a plan B in place. Just in case our democracy no longer exists, but we just didn't
Mark Hayes (24:47.503)
Right.
Brock Ganeles (25:10.677)
realize it yet. And that's why we have to have courage and have to be ready to fight for the vote. Because this is this is where the rubber might meet the road in terms of whether we're gonna allow ourselves to roll into fascism like Russia or whether we're gonna have real elections here and still have a democracy. And I gotta be honest, I have no fucking idea. I don't know.
Mark Hayes (25:13.228)
Right. Right.
Mark Hayes (25:30.678)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mark Hayes (25:38.733)
Right. Right?
Brock Ganeles (25:38.772)
I don't know if we're gonna be able to have a fair and a free and fair election that actually would the of which the results get honored and transition actually happens. And there's not a single person that can assure me that that's gonna be the case. Not with Donald Trump as president. Nobody in this country can assure me not to work, can tell me, no, don't worry about it. It's gonna be fair. It's good, things are gonna be fine.
Mark Hayes (25:50.456)
Right. Right.
Mark Hayes (25:55.76)
Right.
Mark Hayes (26:02.531)
Right.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. all right. Let's get up and get out of here with a couple of quick hits. What do you got?
Brock Ganeles (26:12.193)
Couple quick hits. Let's talk about some people who fucked around and found out. Who got so cozy with Donald Trump and MAGAWorld and felt like, wow, they were gonna get taken care of. Leppard wasn't gonna eat their faces. Let's start with the Saudis who carved up Khashoggi and paid Kushner a couple billion on the side, and then we were real happy when they got Trump to fight their war for him with Iran. Now
Mark Hayes (26:16.857)
Aha!
Mark Hayes (26:26.785)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (26:32.026)
Yeah.
Brock Ganeles (26:40.673)
Both of their canals and streets have gotten now the Houthis are kicking their ass. They're begging for American air support, which I guess hasn't showed up yet, and wondering where we are to take care of their problems in Yemen to make sure their oil can flow. So I feel like the Saudis are feeling the pinch.
Mark Hayes (26:50.745)
Yeah.
Mark Hayes (26:57.252)
Right.
Mark Hayes (27:02.916)
Yeah, isn't that awesome?
Brock Ganeles (27:03.199)
Mark Hayes (27:06.872)
Isn't that awesome?
Brock Ganeles (27:06.989)
Should they be s should they be surprised?
Mark Hayes (27:10.4)
I would think not. I would think they'd have been ready for this. You know, but they're so busy counting their money, they forgot to protect the investment. I'm sure they're calling Jared nonstop saying, dude, where we're where's our gunships and where's our where where's our military? Huh?
Where are our guys out here, you know, patrolling for us, clearing the way for us to make more billions and billions, you know? And like you pointed out in our editorial meeting on September 11th, no less, they're crying about it, complaining about it. They got s they got some nerve. Some nerve. After your role in the worst terrorist attack in American history on American soil, you've got some freaking nerve.
nerve. yeah, that is awful interesting. I think the other funny story of the day Go ahead.
Brock Ganeles (28:09.389)
Wait my like no hold on, my second I got one more, I'm gonna squeeze another one in before I turn it over to you. My second buck around and find out is like how you feeling about those Cubans in Florida who find themselves getting deported to Africa.
Isn't remember they they they had the they couldn't vote for the black woman couldn't couldn't vote for the black woman, couldn't vote for that communist socialist black woman, they gotta go with MAGA because he's good for the economy. And isn't it ironic they couldn't vote for the black woman? Somehow they're getting deported to Africa. So they're gonna have to get along with some of their black brethren over there. So kudos to our friends down in Florida, the the MAGA
Mark Hayes (28:30.448)
They voted for Donald Trump.
Mark Hayes (28:47.14)
Yeah. Yeah, that's weird.
Yeah.
Brock Ganeles (28:57.367)
Cuban community in Florida.
Mark Hayes (28:59.876)
That fucked around and found out the hard way. That that was not pretty for them. wow. love that for them. but yeah, they they fell for the banana and the tailpipe, Brock. Right? The Latino community, we keep trying to figure it out. And you know, it's funny too, because Brock, you know, with all all
All the fanfare made about Black America turning on Kamala, it just wasn't true. It just wasn't accurate. 85% of black men voted for her, 92% of black women. Like, yeah, you're gonna have some strays. You know? We didn't have any strays right around the 50-50 mark, like just about every other demographic who wasn't really sure, right?
One thing they were sure about was their racism. The thing they weren't sure about is how well the racism would play into protecting their businesses, their livelihoods, their friends, families, their communities, and their ability to not be deported. yeah, that didn't work out. That was that was a calculated gamble that went all bad. But it is fuck around and find out season, as you mentioned.
also another fuck around and find out is it looks like Ben Shelton has been exposed. yeah, apparently Ben's MAGA and not ashamed of it. Says no matter who's president, Jesus is king. Those are his words, not mine. but he's apparently MAGA, apparently proud of it. And yeah, so look.
Once you lose your black card and you are disinvited from the picnic, we don't fuck with you. We're pretty much done with you. You know, the Stephen A. Smiths of the world. I can't tell you the last time I saw First Take, I don't I didn't even know it was still on because I thought he was doing all these podcasts and YouTube and all this other stuff. You know, I didn't even know First Take was still on. it's funny how everybody else has been unceremoniously booted from that show except for him.
Mark Hayes (31:21.44)
because he's willing to say whatever they want him to say, which is so sad. And you know, and see, and Brock, and here's what people don't like to remember conveniently forget, right? Think about the time. going back to, you know, the the 60s, the real struggle, right? That 58 to 68 period, 68 when everything just blew up.
Dr. King was assassinated. 63, JFK was assassinated, you know, the civil rights bill, the voting rights bill in 65. And then we had people like Cassius Clay, aka Mohammed Ali, who shall forever be known as Muhammad Ali, Lou Alcinder, Jim Brown, all these tran.
Like transcendent athletes who stood up and took a stand for black America. Stephen A. Smith will never be remembered in that vein. In this pivotal time where we're in an existential crisis, you are helping, you are helping the white supremacist agenda. You're not calling for a more inclusive, more multicultural, multi-ethnic broadcast covering of the facts.
You know, Janel Jamel Hill and Carrie Champion screwed skewered him on their interview with him. And if you don't believe me, just watch for yourself and be honest with yourself. And see if they didn't read him up one side and down the other. And because it needed to be done. And and Brock, at this point, you know, when when you're not playing with the home team, I heard a local radio disc jockey say African Americans.
Need to take a page out of some of these other ethnicities playbook, right? Start pooling resources, start bringing the community together now. Because we are in for a huge correction. Because if this midterm doesn't take, Brock, and we don't get people in roles of leadership that can effectively make change and reverse some of this nonsense.
Mark Hayes (33:47.973)
That's going on. Like for for for instance, the ability to buy lettuce safely. Wouldn't it be nice to go be able to buy lettuce? If you're not helping us, you're against us. Ben Shelton, you know, will throw you in there for, you know, the what I saw on social media, the Cooney Awards, you know, when you're cooning and such for the man. And, you know, I'm thinking that, you know, at this point.
It we don't we don't have time to play games. You're either with us or you're gin us. And that's the bottom line, my
Brock Ganeles (34:26.167)
Yeah, I just figure it's this is not a time for gray areas. It's it's a I mean, we're in a time where it's absolute moral clarity. There's no middle ground. And if you're playing to MAGA, you you know exactly what you're supporting. Right? You're supporting racism, you're supporting anti-LGBTQ, you're supporting a misogyny, you're supporting an anti-immigrant stance.
You know, it's a pretty clear argument. You're really supporting a white supremacy version of America. And I'm always surprised when anyone any black person is on board for that. You know I'm disappointed when Jews are on board for that. I would think the only people who should be on board for that are like white Christians. Because it's a white Christian movement. Like everyone else is screwed.
Mark Hayes (35:17.988)
Right. Right. Right. Right.
Brock Ganeles (35:23.255)
You know, I'm surprised when Latinos are on board for it, Cubans in Florida on board for it. I'm surprised across the board when anyone's on on board for it, not understanding that they are at best second-class citizens in that society, if not just flat out at risk. Makes no sense to me. I don't understand the thinking. I'm always disappointed when I hear black athletes who aren't Colin Kaepernick like and like, you know.
social warriors, but to l out to literally be MAGA is just astounding to me.
Mark Hayes (35:59.684)
Yeah, yeah. I'll never understand it. Especially when like Stephen A. Smith has done, they take aim at the black woman. And you know, the black woman has been through it all. and it it it it angers the community as a whole. that's why that's why Ben Crump can walk through an Omega Sci-Fi Fraternity Incorporated Grand Conclave.
And get, you know, cheers and adulation. Stephen A can't get that. He's gonna get boos and jeers, you know, at best. So you know, there's a huge difference in you know, being true to who you are and then willing to sell your soul. I think we've said it a couple times on this broadcast, Brock. We know exactly what it costs.
To purchase Stephen A. Smith's soul. We know what it is. You know, all that screaming and yelling and hollering. I guess somebody somewhere likes it. it must still be paying off. But, you know, they've laid off so many people at ESPN that that must be how they're paying for it. cause I can't imagine that MAGA's watching. Right? I'd just like to know who's watching. Just tell me that much. But yeah.
All right, buddy, good stuff. Happy Sunday. We get a stiff drink. The revolution continues.
Brock Ganeles (37:34.945)
Keep up the fight, Mark. I'll talk to you tomorrow.
Mark Hayes (37:38.202)
Sounds good. Peace.
